Actress Melissa Joan Hart says she wept “happy tears” as she watched her 16-year-old son Brady publicly declare his faith through baptism.
In an October Instagram post, the “God’s Not Dead 2” star wrote, “Today, he made the decision to follow Christ and to have his church family witness his dedication and be a shining light for the Glory of God! God Bless and Keep you Brady! John 3:30.”
In a recent interview, Hart shared that a difficult year for the family may have deepened her son’s faith. “We just went through some tough times this year with losing loved ones and a friend of ours getting cancer and things,” she said. “So it’s been a little bit of a rough year, and we’ve really leaned into prayer as a family.”
Hart, 49, said faith is central in their home. Her children see their father reading the Bible early each morning, hear Scripture played aloud, and regularly quote verses together. Though their sons were baptized as babies, Brady “just felt very called” to make a personal decision of faith.
“He has a great youth pastor that has inspired him. He’s got teachers at school that are constantly talking to him about faith, friends that he talks to about faith,” she said. “It started to really mean a lot to him in the last year. It started to really resonate with him.”
Hart admitted the baptism came as a surprise and said she and her husband were overwhelmed during the service. “My husband and I sat in the front… and just bawling,” she recalled. “People were handing us tissues!”
The actress, who has spoken openly about her walk with Christ for years, said prayer remains a daily practice. “As I talk to myself as I go through my day, I’m always going to God,” she previously shared. “Prayer is just a very important part of our family. Faith is all very much an important part of our lives.”
