Miracle of the Andes: Faith That Endured

In October 1972, a plane carrying a Christian rugby team crashed high in the Andes Mountains. The survivors were trapped at 12,000 feet in freezing temperatures, surrounded by glaciers with no food, no rescue, and no way to call for help. After just 10 days, the official search was called off. The world believed they were dead.

But inside the broken fuselage, the young men prayed together daily — reciting the Lord’s Prayer, encouraging one another with their faith, and placing their lives in God’s hands. When hope seemed gone, two of them stepped out into the impossible, climbing snow-covered peaks for 10 days with no gear, trusting that God would make a way.

Against every natural prediction, after 10 days, they reached a shepherd on the other side of the mountains. Helicopters returned to the crash site, and 16 survivors were pulled out alive after 72 days in conditions no one survives. What had been declared a grave became known around the world as the Miracle of the Andes — a rescue that proved against all natural possibility, God can still bring His people out alive!
