Puerto Rico Recognizes Unborn Children as Legal Persons

Puerto Rico has enacted Senate Bill 504, a new law recognizing unborn children as legal persons from conception.

Signed by Governor Jenniffer González Colón, the measure amends the Civil Code to grant unborn children legal personality and eligibility for certain protections, including insurance, inheritance (subject to birth), and legal representation.

The law passed both chambers with strong majorities and took effect immediately. Pro-life leaders, including National Right to Life, called it a landmark step.
