Purpose Over Passion: Drake Maye’s Faith

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye said he tries to use the platform he has been given to point to God, stressing that his purpose is bigger than his passion. “I try to take advantage of this platform that I’ve been given,” Maye said, adding that he aims to keep “a constant reminder that my purpose is bigger than my passion.” He described football as something he once chased, saying, “I was trying to chase a passion in life. And that happened to turn out to be football.”
Maye emphasized that faith has been the consistent foundation through every season of life. “There’s always been a constant in my life. That’s been my faith,” he said. He explained that whether in “highs” or “lows,” and in moments when he feels he “need[s] prayer” or is at his “highest moments,” he returns to the same center: “That relationship with the Lord and a follower of Jesus Christ is the biggest thing in my life.”
He said keeping faith “at number one” is what he believes has brought him where he is, and he wants to use that influence to help others. Maye said he hopes to “shine light onto others,” and to do what he can toward “leading them to Jesus Christ,” adding that he believes people can see “how their life can change and what it can do for them.”
