Quiet Hope in Venezuela Amid Crisis

A missionary who has served in Venezuela for 26 years says the country remains tense but filled with quiet hope amid economic collapse and political turmoil. Dan Arce told CBN News that while police and military operations continue near his home, he and his wife are currently safe.

Arce described the national mood as one of restrained relief: “Everyone is immersed in a silent joy at the moment,” he said, explaining that people are afraid to express their emotions publicly for fear of arrest, kidnapping, or worse. He added that wherever he goes, Venezuelans tell him, “Please tell your president, we thank him.”

He confirmed that members of his church have been arrested in the past, including respected elders detained for witnessing a vote near a polling station. According to Arce, recent releases of political prisoners came only after international pressure.

Despite previously planning to take a break from the mission, Arce said he decided to stay. “When things get tough, I can’t just leave,” he said. “People are suffering. They need support. They need love.” His church is providing food aid while continuing to share the Gospel, emphasizing that help must come first through action.

Arce asked Christians worldwide to pray, saying the Church must move forward “in the name of Jesus Christ,” trusting that “the gates of hell cannot overcome” God’s work in Venezuela.
