“Roa, as a teacher, was convinced she knew everything about Christians: they worship three gods, their book has been changed, and they live immoral lives. But she was searching for answers to her inner emptiness.
One day, while driving, she felt the urge to “read the Injil (New Testament)”! Roa asked a nun who was studying with her for a copy of the Injil and when Roa began reading in the book of Matthew, was greatly impressed by Jesus. She began researching him in the Qur’an—and recognized him there as God: “Jesus is described as the Word of God, and he creates things. Only God can do that!”
After about a year of self-study and online conversations, Roa prayed to Jesus for the first time. “I felt incredible peace and joy, I felt like a new person,” she recalls.
She immediately wanted to show her family and friends in the Qur’an what she had realized. But they took it as criticism of Islam and wanted to make sure that no one found out about Roa’s thoughts. They were also convinced that she would now lead an immoral life and take drugs. Nevertheless, Roa continues to love and honor the more than twenty members of her immediate family and shares her growing faith with them. She fights against the image of ‘immoral’ Christians and continues to wear the hijab. Roa emphasizes that she has not lost God, but has found Jesus. And she has a heart for her people, the Jordanians, and uses a variety of ways to introduce them to Jesus.”
Father of mercy, we lift up Roa to You, so grateful for the way You drew her when she was searching in her emptiness. Thank You for stirring her heart to read the Injil, and for revealing the beauty of Jesus to her through the Gospel of Matthew. Guard her with Your peace and protection as she continues to love and honor her family. Strengthen her when she is misunderstood, and let her life radiate integrity, purity, and compassion so that the fruit of the Spirit displayed in her life would woo her family to You! Give her wisdom, courage, and boldness as she shares Jesus with her family and with the people of Jordan, and let her testimony be a light that cannot be hidden.
And Lord, during these next 30 days of Ramadan which began last night, when millions of Muslims are praying, fasting, and seeking with sincerity, we ask that Your Holy Spirit would draw them with dreams of You, the Man in white with nail-pierced hands, Scripture, and divine encounters. Meet them in their hunger and reveal the true peace and joy that Roa found in You, the Savior of the World! Open hearts to understand who You truly are, remove fear, and draw entire families to Yourself. May this season of seeking become a season of finding—where many discover that Jesus is the only way to the Father and to know Him more fully through YOU! In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
