Snoop Dogg Shares Gospel Praise Online

Snoop Dogg released a video of himself singing the gospel song “I’d Rather Have Jesus”and openly praising God on social media, surprising many of his fans.

Rapper Snoop Dogg (Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.) sparked mixed reactions after publicly identifying himself as a born-again Christian and releasing a 32-track gospel album titled Bible of Love in March 2018. While many Christians welcomed his message of love, forgiveness, and inclusivity, others criticized his faith declaration, pointing to his controversial past and what they see as a lack of public repentance.

Snoop debuted the album at the 2018 Stellar Awards, where he addressed criticism by emphasizing that the church should welcome sinners rather than judge them. He argued that judgment and lack of love are major reasons people leave the church, calling instead for acceptance, compassion, and self-reflection among believers.

Critics highlight Snoop Dogg’s long history of scandals, including drug-related activities, legal issues, explicit sexual behavior, involvement in pornography production, and provocative political imagery. They also question his sincerity due to his previous religious explorations, including affiliation with the Nation of Islam and Rastafarianism, before declaring himself a Christian.

Despite the controversy, Bible of Love features collaborations with prominent gospel artists such as Kim Burrell, The Clark Sisters, Mali Music, and B Slade. Snoop explained that gospel influences have always been present in his music and that creating this album was about spirituality rather than profit—an effort to give back and spread love through faith.
