A 26-year-old street preacher in Arizona says his survival is nothing short of miraculous after being shot in the head while sharing the Gospel. Hans Schmidt, a military veteran, father of two, and outreach director, was preaching on a street corner when he suddenly collapsed, sensing something was wrong. He was able to gather his belongings and drive back to his church, where his wife quickly realized the severity of the situation as he began losing the ability to speak and later suffered seizures on the way to the hospital.
Doctors discovered a bullet lodged in his brain and initially believed there was little hope, placing him on life support in a medically induced coma. But after weeks of prayer and care, Hans began to recover. About a month later, he spoke again and was eventually able to return home to his family. Despite the shooter still being unknown, Schmidt has chosen forgiveness, saying, “I should not be alive… but by His grace and His love, I am still here,” and, “I forgive him.”
