Actor Ted McGinley says Hollywood is largely indifferent to producing family-safe entertainment and is urging Christian audiences to actively support uplifting films if they want to see more of them made.
“Hollywood does not care,” the 66-year-old said, adding that studios are primarily motivated by profit. However, he noted that if executives recognize “a massive Christian audience waiting for content,” that financial incentive could lead to higher-quality faith-based productions. “There is a huge Christian audience out there waiting for product,” he said.
McGinley, known for mainstream roles in Married… with Children and Apple TV+’s Shrinking, has increasingly appeared in faith-centered projects such as The Baxters and The Engagement Plan. He praised platforms like Great American Pure Flix for providing parents with dependable options. “You, as a parent, can say to the babysitter, ‘Anything on this channel is going to be OK while I’m gone,’” he said.
Still, he stressed that audiences must do more than express appreciation. “If the faith-based and Christian audiences want to have a product, they have to make sure they support the good ones when they come out,” he said. “Otherwise, they will stop doing it.”
Discussing The Engagement Plan, he said the film carries a clear message about surrendering control. “You can do everything you want, but it’s God’s plan, not your plan,” he said. “Sometimes life doesn’t work the way you want, and God lets you know how it’s going to work.”
McGinley also reflected on his personal faith, calling it his foundation throughout decades in Hollywood. “I’ve always had a relationship with God… I was actually never alone because I had God there,” he said. “That’s been my saving grace.”
