President Donald Trump is urging both the House and Senate to swiftly pass the SAVE America Act and send it to his desk to be signed into law. In remarks shared by the White House, officials said Trump is “one of the strongest supporters” of the legislation, which would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote and photo identification before casting a ballot.
The proposal also includes exceptions for “reasonable requests,” such as accommodations for military members, people with disabilities, and others unable to appear in person at polling locations. Trump has made clear he wants lawmakers in both parties to move the bill forward, stating that passage through Congress is necessary to ensure election integrity and allow the measure to become law.
