Truth Over Comfort

I’M NOT AFRAID OF HELL—I’M AFRAID GOD WILL SHOW ME I CHOSE COMFORT OVER TRUTH

Most people say they don’t believe in hell anymore, but that’s not actually what scares them. What terrifies them is accountability. Hell is distant. Judgment feels abstract. But standing before God with a life laid bare—that’s personal. That’s unavoidable. That’s where excuses die.

Scripture makes something painfully clear: we will give an account. Not just for what we believed, but for what we loved. Jesus never framed the problem as ignorance. He framed it as preference. “Men loved darkness rather than light.” Not because the light was unclear—but because it was costly.

Comfort is the quiet idol of our generation. It doesn’t demand blood. It just asks for delay. Delay obedience. Delay repentance. Delay surrender. Delay truth until it’s more convenient. And before you realize it, an entire life is built around avoiding discomfort while calling it wisdom.

The fear is not flames. The fear is realization. Realizing God spoke clearly, but you negotiated. Realizing conviction came, but you scrolled past it. Realizing the Gospel offended you, and instead of letting it kill your old self, you softened it until it fit your lifestyle. Jesus warned about this exact thing. He said many will call Him “Lord” and still be turned away—not for lack of belief, but for lack of obedience.

This is the terror no one wants to admit: meeting a holy God and realizing you didn’t reject Him outright—you postponed Him politely. You didn’t deny the truth—you chose comfort when it mattered most. And in that moment, comfort will not defend you. Only Christ will.
