In eastern Uganda a new Christian convert was ambushed at his home and had his hands cut off by Muslim family members.
Kalegeya Faruku, 40, told a Morning Start News contact that, “I gave my life to Jesus in early March 2026, and my family members were not happy. “They became very angry and started sending me threatening messages about taking my life.”
On April 17, planned to relocate as a result of those threats and went home to collect his belongings. “I found my brothers waiting for me, as if they had been informed,” Faruku said. “My elder brother approached me and pretended to ask about my whereabouts. Suddenly, he grabbed me, and others surrounded me.”
“They took him into the house and cut off his hands while reciting Islamic scripture, he said. Morning Star News has seen photos of the severed limbs. The relatives later transported him about five kilometers away and abandoned him near a crossroads, severely injured.”
Strangers found him and took him to get medical care. He’s still undergoing treatment and receiving care at a medical facility. He’s been attending an evangelical church in the area while undergoing treatment.
The assistant pastor of that church stated that his father, Lubega Issa, justified the attack by saying, “That is what sharia [Islamic law] instructs us to do to those who deny the religion of Allah”.
“For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.”

Oh Abba Father, we pray for Kalegeya Faruku. Comfort him as he’s suffered so harshly for following Jesus. We pray for his rapid recovery and complete healing–mind, body, soul, and spirit. We pray for a softening in the hearts of his family that committed this atrocity. Jesus, come to them in dreams and visions and show them the truth of who You are and the forgiveness awaiting them upon repentance. This was indeed an evil act, but Lord, we pray You use this to save many lives, beginning with his own family. Lord, we also pray for the Holy Spirit to supernaturally equip Kalegeya to forgive his family. We would also pray for him to be surrounded by a loving and compassionate community of believers that would disciple him and help him grow spiritually in this time of physical recovery. Father, we pray for so many Jesus followers around the world that live among people following Sharia law; protect them, strengthen them, and help them walk wisely and with Holy Spirit power as they live for You.
