Usyk’s Bold Faith in Saudi Arabia

After defeating Anthony Joshua in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk did something far more powerful than win a title—he publicly gave glory to Jesus Christ.

In an Islamic kingdom where public expressions of other faiths are restricted, Usyk made the sign of the cross, wore a crucifix, and openly affirmed that Jesus Christ is his Lord. This was not subtle. It was deliberate, visible, and costly.

Usyk, a devout Orthodox Christian, has never hidden his faith. On the world’s biggest stages—and across his personal social media—he consistently writes statements like “Jesus is Lord” and “All glory belongs to Jesus Christ.” But doing so in Saudi Arabia amplified the weight of his confession.

This wasn’t cultural Christianity. It was conviction.

Usyk’s actions echo the words of Christ Himself: “Whoever acknowledges Me before others, I will also acknowledge before My Father in heaven.” Faith is not proven where it’s safe—it’s revealed where it’s risky.

In a moment watched by millions, Usyk chose allegiance over approval.
