Beijing Summit and a Call to Pray with Discernment

History was made in Beijing this week, and the words spoken in the Great Hall of the People are echoing across the world.
During his official summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, President Donald Trump praised the Chinese leader publicly, telling him, “It’s an honor to be your friend, and the relationship between China and the USA is going to be better than ever before.” The two leaders met for more than two hours, discussing trade, business, the Iran war, and the Strait of Hormuz. Xi, however, warned Trump that the Taiwan issue could place the entire relationship “in jeopardy” if not handled properly.
For many Americans, the moment carries mixed weight. Some see hopeful diplomacy between the world’s two largest economies. Others remember the long-standing concerns over religious persecution, trade imbalance, and human rights inside China. The truth is that international relationships are rarely simple, and wise nations walk carefully when sitting at the table with powers whose values differ deeply from their own.
Scripture has always called believers to pray for those in authority — not because their decisions are perfect, but because the weight of leadership is heavier than most can understand.
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” — 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Peace is a worthy pursuit. So is discernment. The Bible does not call God’s people to be naive, but to be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” Diplomacy without wisdom invites compromise. Strength without humility invites destruction. Only a nation grounded in something higher than political alliances can navigate the moment without losing its soul.
What does it look like for Christians to pray for their leaders without surrendering their convictions?
A nation is strongest when its leaders are guided not by friendship with the world, but by the fear of the Lord. #trump #america #peace
