Neal McDonough has appeared in some of Hollywood’s biggest productions — Band of Brothers, Justified, Yellowstone — but there was a stretch of years when the industry wanted nothing to do with him.
It started when McDonough, now 60, was fired from an ABC series after refusing to kiss his female co-star on screen. His reason was simple: those lips were for one woman — his wife, Ruvé. Hollywood labeled him a “religious nut bag.” Work dried up. The pain of professional rejection quietly turned into a drinking problem that lasted four years and cost him nearly everything.
“I lost the house, lost the cars, lost everything,” he told Fox News Digital. “I failed Ruvé, my five kids. And that crucifixion caused me so much inner pain because I made it all about me.”
Then his wife gave him a choice that changed his life. She grabbed him and said simply: “It’s us or the bottle. You choose.” He never looked back.
McDonough credits both his faith and Ruvé — his wife of over 25 years and now his producing partner — with saving his life and reshaping his entire purpose. “God gave me the most amazing woman I’ve ever met,” he said. Today the two produce films together, including the upcoming Jimmy Stewart biopic Jimmy, releasing November 2026.
