China’s Supreme People’s Court announced on May 16, 2026 that three convicted child sex offenders had been executed, with the court’s statement describing the sentences as a demonstration of the country’s “zero tolerance” policy toward the sexual abuse of minors. Among those executed was a man who had worked as an instructor at an educational institution and was found to have repeatedly raped eight underage girls, three of whom were younger than 14. A second offender used online platforms to deceive and coerce underage victims into sharing inappropriate images before meeting and assaulting them. The court stated that the executions were intended to send a clear deterrent message to anyone who would target children. China’s Supreme People’s Court directly approves all death sentences before they are carried out, meaning these executions required sign-off at the highest level of the country’s judicial system. The court noted that most child sex offenders are found to be family members, teachers, or neighbors of victims — people in positions of trust who exploited that access. One victim in a prior case took her own life at 16 after years of abuse. Every child is made in the image of God. Psalm 82:3 says, “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” The protection of children is not a political issue. It is a moral one.
