Daycare CEO Charged in $4.6M Minnesota Childcare Fraud

The federal charges came down Wednesday, and the woman whose daycare went viral on YouTube last winter is now facing prison time. Fahima Egeh Mahamud, the CEO of Future Leaders Early Learning Center in Minneapolis, was federally charged this week with wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Prosecutors allege that between October 2022 and December 2025, she submitted more than 13,000 fraudulent claims to Minnesota’s Child Care Assistance Program, a state initiative meant to help low-income families afford daycare. The total alleged take was roughly $4.6 million. According to the indictment, Mahamud falsely certified that her daycare collected required parent co-payments, allowing her to draw down millions in taxpayer subsidies for meals and care that prosecutors say were never actually provided. This is the second major federal case against her this year. She was previously indicted for her alleged role in the $250 million Feeding Our Future scandal, a pandemic-era child nutrition fraud described by federal prosecutors as one of the largest of its kind in U.S. history. Her daycare was one of several featured in a viral YouTube investigation by independent journalist Nick Shirley late last year, who walked into Minneapolis-area daycares and found facilities billing the government for hundreds of children while serving almost none. After the video went viral, her center shut down. She was arrested in February as she attempted to board a flight to London. “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.” Luke 16:10. Two things are worth noticing here. One young man with a camera walked into a building, asked simple questions, and ended up triggering a federal investigation that has now frozen $185 million in childcare funding and brought charges against a multi-million-dollar fraud ring. And the children who were supposed to be fed and cared for by those programs are the ones who paid the real price. What do you think it says when one independent reporter uncovers what state agencies missed for years? Truth always finds its way to the surface. #justice #truth #america
