A chaotic scene at a sleepy Pennsylvania DMV ended with more than a dozen arrests after federal agents responded to citizen tips about an unusually large gathering of suspected illegal immigrants. On Friday, April 4, residents near the West Kittanning Driver’s License Center began calling local police and the Department of Homeland Security after noticing an abnormally large crowd of tractor-trailer drivers waiting outside the facility. ICE agents arrived shortly after, and the scene quickly descended into chaos as multiple individuals fled on foot, ran through yards, and even abandoned their rigs in the street. When officers opened the cabs of some big rigs, witnesses said as many as ten people came out of a single truck. Thirteen illegal immigrants from countries including Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan were taken into custody, with at least one facing additional charges of assault on an officer. PennDOT confirmed it did not coordinate with federal officials and is no longer issuing new non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses, following a federal pause directed by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. The story matters because it touches something every American family understands. The 80,000-pound truck driving next to your minivan on the interstate should be operated by someone who is in this country legally, properly trained, and accountable under American law. The roads are a place where small failures cost real lives. Scripture is clear that justice and order are not enemies of compassion. God established government to defend the innocent and to protect the vulnerable from harm. “For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval.” — Romans 13:3 Christians can pray for every person caught up in these situations while still believing that real love for a nation includes upholding the laws that keep its people safe. How should the Church balance compassion for immigrants with support for the laws that protect American families? #america #justice #accountability
