The president of the United States said it on a global stage, and the words have not stopped echoing.
On January 20, 2025, during his inaugural address, President Donald Trump told the nation, “I was saved by God to make America great again.” He was referring to the July 13, 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a bullet grazed his right ear and one rally attendee was killed. The phrase has taken on renewed weight in the weeks since April 25, 2026, when Cole Tomas Allen breached security at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, exchanged fire with Secret Service, and was charged with attempted assassination. It is now the third documented attempt on Trump’s life since 2024, and many Americans are no longer treating his survival as coincidence.
Whatever someone’s politics, the spiritual dimension of these events deserves honest reflection. Throughout history, God has used unlikely men, in unlikely moments, for purposes far greater than themselves. The Bible is filled with leaders who were not perfect, yet were preserved when their work was not finished. Saying so does not require endorsing every decision a leader makes. It simply acknowledges that God remains sovereign over the events of nations.
Scripture is clear about who ultimately determines history.
“He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” Daniel 2:21
A country fighting for its identity needs leaders willing to publicly point upward. Whether one agrees with the man or not, the moment is real. Bullets came close, and a life was spared, and the One who holds the breath of every nation is still on His throne. That is not political. That is the testimony of every generation that has ever cried out to Him.
