Faith on Display in the Pentagon

Pete Hegseth walked into his Senate confirmation hearing as Secretary of Defense with a cross tattooed on his chest and a Bible verse on his arm. He did not hide either one.

Hegseth is an evangelical Christian who has spoken openly about his faith for years — on television, in his books, and now from the highest levels of the United States military. He has said that his Christian faith is not a weekend activity but the defining framework of how he leads, how he fights, and how he views his responsibility to the men and women under his command. He once wrote that America’s military was built on a Judeo-Christian foundation and that stripping that foundation out had weakened it.

When asked about the crosses and scripture on his body, his answer was simple: he is not ashamed of who he is or what he believes.

The Secretary of Defense of the United States of America is an unashamed follower of Jesus Christ. That is worth pausing on.

Romans 1:16 says: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.”

Paul wrote that from a Roman prison cell, knowing it could cost him his life. Hegseth says it from the Pentagon. The declaration has not changed — only the address.
