Florida counted 10 million votes in hours. California still doesn’t have results days later.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called out California’s ballot-counting pace this week after Tuesday’s primary elections — including the Los Angeles mayoral race — left voters waiting days with no final results. DeSantis posted to X: “Florida processes more than 10 million votes in a matter of hours. California takes days — or sometimes even weeks — to count the votes. It’s pathetic — and it’s corrosive to our civic culture.”
California’s Secretary of State office noted that mail-in ballots must be postmarked by election day and received up to seven days after, with officials having roughly a month to complete counting and certifying results.
Election integrity is not a partisan issue — it’s a trust issue. When results take weeks, confidence erodes on all sides. A democracy depends on the people believing the process is both honest and swift.
Proverbs 11:3 says the integrity of the upright guides them. A nation that cannot count its votes with clarity and speed is a nation asking its people to trust a system they cannot verify.
Transparency and accountability belong in every institution — including how a free people casts and counts its votes.
