A reality TV star with a colorful past just sat down with CNN, looked the anchor in the eye, and named Jesus Christ as his political role model. Spencer Pratt – the reality star turned Los Angeles mayoral candidate – has one hell of a political role model … Jesus Christ himself! Whatever you think of Spencer Pratt, whatever you think of his Hills storyline or his independent run against Karen Bass, the moment itself is worth pausing on. A man on national television, in 2026, in front of a smiling CNN anchor, said the name of Jesus without flinching. That used to be normal in this country. It is not normal anymore. Pratt got one part right and one part not quite right, and both pieces are worth talking about. He was right that Jesus is the greatest role model any leader could ever have. Servant before crowd. Truth before applause. Compassion before calculation. The willingness to be hated for doing right rather than loved for doing wrong. Every politician in America would be better at their job if they actually studied the life of Jesus Christ. Where the framing missed slightly is the word politician. Jesus was not a politician. When the crowd tried to make Him a king by force in John chapter six, He withdrew to the mountain alone. When Pilate asked Him directly about His kingdom, He said this. “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” John 18:36. Jesus was not running for office. He was inviting people into a kingdom that no ballot can deliver and no election can undo. That distinction matters. The world needs more leaders who follow Christ. The world does not need more people who use Christ as a campaign accessory. May we be able to tell the difference. What would change in American politics if every candidate who claimed Jesus actually lived like Him? #america #truth #jesus
