Tyson on Loyalty and Friendship

One of the most feared men in the history of professional sports just told America who has his back and why.
Boxing legend Mike Tyson appeared on Fox News with host Jesse Watters earlier this year and publicly defended his decades-long friendship with President Trump, telling viewers, “My whole experience with President Trump is that he’s just a genuine real person. He’s got your back, he’s with you a hundred percent.” Tyson concluded, “That’s why I’m for him a hundred percent because he’s never been nothing but for me.” The friendship between Tyson and Trump dates back to the 1980s when Iron Mike fought at Trump Plaza with the future president ringside. Tyson has since partnered with the Trump administration on initiatives ranging from fighting childhood obesity alongside HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to leading a coalition that pushed for cannabis rescheduling, a move Trump approved in December. At a Black History Month address, Trump publicly thanked Tyson, calling him loyal “since the beginning, good times and bad.”
A man who has lived more lifetimes than most of us will ever know stood in front of a camera and chose loyalty over the easy applause of agreeing with the crowd. Real friendship is the kind that survives prison sentences, bankruptcies, indictments, and assassination attempts. It does not retreat when the cameras turn unfavorable.
Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”
The world celebrates loyalty in songs and movies but rarely rewards it in real life. When a man stands by another man across forty years and two presidencies, that is something heaven sees.
