Kat Von D’s New Life in Christ

The same God who saved a tax collector and a thief on a cross is still saving people today — and the world keeps watching in shock.
World-renowned tattoo artist and former reality TV star Kat Von D, whose full name is Katherine von Drachenberg, publicly professed faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at a small church in Vevay, Indiana. The 41-year-old former LA Ink star spent years immersed in witchcraft, the occult, and what she has called “the macabre.” In 2022, she announced she was renouncing all of it. “There is a spiritual battle taking place,” she wrote, “and I want to surround myself and my family with love and light.” She has since discarded her books on witchcraft and meditation practices, saying simply, “I just want Jesus.”
Critics from inside and outside the Church have questioned whether her conversion is genuine, pointing to her tattoos, gothic style, and longtime aesthetic. Kat has answered without flinching. She has called her salvation “a complete deprogramming” and described her transformation as so radical that if observers could see inside her heart, “their minds would be blown.” She has said openly that she is not ashamed to leave her past behind.
Her story is a reminder that grace does not check résumés at the door. The Gospel does not require a person to look the part before Jesus saves them. He meets people in the darkness and walks them out into the light, sometimes still wearing the same clothes.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Kat Von D’s outward style may still surprise some, but the inward miracle is the only one that matters in eternity. Christians should celebrate every prodigal who walks through the door, not stand at the gate inspecting them.
Heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents. May the Church learn to do the same.
