On May 9, 2025, President Trump signed his 150th executive order directing the Department of Veterans Affairs to establish the National Center for Warrior Independence on the VA’s West Los Angeles campus — the city with more homeless veterans than anywhere else in America.
The order redirects funds previously allocated for housing and services for illegal immigrants toward the construction and operation of the new facility. The goal is to house up to 6,000 homeless veterans at the center by January 1, 2028.  VA Secretary Doug Collins was directed to prepare an action plan and expand healthcare access including weekend appointments and virtual care options.
For years, American veterans slept on the streets of Los Angeles while federal dollars paid for housing programs serving people who entered the country illegally. That is not a political statement. It is what the record shows. The Biden-era VA even diverted personnel to process medical claims for individuals in ICE custody while veterans waited in line for the same services they earned.
A nation that forgets its warriors has forgotten its conscience. These men and women signed a blank check to this country — up to and including their lives. The least this nation owes them is a roof.
Proverbs 3:27 says: “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.”
It was always in our power. We just had to choose to do it.
