Pentagon Ends Official Pride and Heritage Month Observances

The Pentagon just made it official — the U.S. military will not be celebrating Pride Month.

On January 31, 2025, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth issued a directive titled “Identity Months Dead at DoD,” formally ending all official Department of Defense celebrations of cultural awareness and heritage months — including Pride Month. The directive stated that efforts to elevate one group above others “erode camaraderie and threaten mission execution.” Under the policy, no DoD components or military departments may use official resources, including duty hours, to host celebrations or events tied to identity months. The directive applies to all heritage months — including Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and Pride Month. Military and civilian personnel may still attend these events privately and off-duty. The policy came into effect on the first day of February 2025, hours before Black History Month officially began. Hegseth’s directive is now facing legal challenges on separate fronts, and the Pentagon is also appealing a federal court ruling this week that struck down the military’s transgender ban.

For many Americans — particularly those who serve or have served — the military’s primary function has always been warfighting, not celebration. The argument Hegseth is making is simple: a unified force does not sort itself by identity groups.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” — Galatians 3:28

Unity is not achieved by celebrating our differences. It is built by serving a mission greater than ourselves.

What do you think — should the military observe Pride Month or any identity month officially? #america #truth #culture
