Less than a week after returning from the Artemis II mission, commander Reid Wiseman shared an emotional moment from the crew’s return.
Though he said he is “not really a religious person,” he asked to see a Navy chaplain after splashdown because there was “no other avenue” to explain what he had experienced. When the chaplain entered wearing a cross, Wiseman said, “I just broke down in tears.”
Wiseman also described seeing the sun disappear behind the moon as “otherworldly” and beyond human comprehension.
Fellow astronaut Victor Glover, who is open about his Christian faith, said, “I am a religious person, but everything else is the same,” adding the crew still needs time to process it all.
