Vance Says Faith Hope for Wife Is Respectful

Vice President JD Vance defended comments about hoping his wife, Usha, who is Hindu, might one day share his Christian faith, arguing that such a desire is a natural expression of deeply held beliefs rather than a sign of disrespect.

Speaking with Sean Hannity, Vance said that because he believes “Jesus Christ is the Son of God” and that faith influences “everything else about me,” it is only natural to want loved ones to share that perspective. He emphasized that his hope for agreement on faith does not diminish his respect for his wife.

Vance also praised Usha’s role in his spiritual journey, noting that “a lot of my own journey back to faith, she supported,” even when she did not share his beliefs. He described some of their discussions about “faith, religion, and theology” as the best conversations he has ever had, saying they have both learned from each other because of their differing perspectives.
