A man was fatally shot by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis on Saturday during an operation to arrest an illegal immigrant with a criminal record, officials said.
DHS reported the man approached agents armed with a 9 mm handgun and resisted disarmament, prompting an agent to fire in self-defense. Police identified him as a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident and U.S. citizen with a legal carry permit.
A crowd later gathered near the scene, leading to tear gas and pepper spray. The incident comes amid rising tensions following a recent ICE-related shooting in the city.
