Broken Arrow Rejects Islamic Center Proposal

City officials in Broken Arrow, a suburb of Tulsa, voted 4–1 to reject a proposal to build a 15-acre Islamic center and mosque.

Supporters argued the project was about religious freedom and meeting the needs of a growing Muslim population in the Tulsa area, while opponents cited concerns over traffic, infrastructure, floodplain issues, and long-term land use.

City and state leaders said the decision was based on compliance with Broken Arrow’s comprehensive development plan, not religion.
