Jelly Roll’s wife, Bunnie Xo (Alisa DeFord), says the backlash to her husband’s Gospel message at the Grammy Awards has been “horrific” and “borderline demonic.” Speaking on her Dumb Blonde podcast, she pushed back against critics who accused the singer of being a “performative Christian” or making a “very MAGA” statement after he thanked Jesus for saving his life.
DeFord said online reactions prove why some people are hesitant to identify as Christians, arguing that “people are weaponizing the Bible and religion way more than they are celebrating the name of Jesus.” She defended her husband, noting he wasn’t telling anyone what to do — only saying, “Jesus is for everybody… Jesus loves you.”
During his Grammy speech, Jelly Roll credited Jesus and his wife for transforming his life, saying he would have “ended up dead or in jail” without faith. Holding up a pocket Bible, he told the audience, “Jesus is not owned by one political party… anybody can have a relationship with Him.”
