When challenged, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth responded plainly: “I am not ashamed of my faith in Jesus Christ.” Rather than softening his stance, he openly affirmed his identity as “a believer.”
He also emphasized that the military “allows for many faiths,” arguing that his personal Christianity does not exclude others. Still, critics questioned whether highlighting Christianity in leadership can truly remain neutral—but Hegseth did not back down, making clear his faith is central to who he is.
