Former CNN host Don Lemon is facing backlash after joining protesters who disrupted a Sunday worship service at Cities Church in Minnesota.
On a podcast this week, Lemon compared the church disruption to Jesus flipping tables in the temple, saying, “Jesus turned the tables over… because He was tired of them not doing what they’re supposed to do in His Father’s house.”
Lemon argued that a pastor serving in law enforcement is “doing the exact opposite of what Christianity is supposed to be about,” and suggested that some church members — and ICE agents — act out of “entitlement” rooted in “white supremacy.”
He said the experience may have been “uncomfortable and traumatic,” especially for families and kids, but added bluntly, “That’s what protesting is about.”
The church’s lead pastor, Jonathan Parnell, calmly asked the protesters to leave during the service and later called the disruption “shameful.”
Church elders said the agitators “frightened children” and created an atmosphere of “intimidation and threat,” stressing that invading a worship service is protected by neither Scripture nor the law.
