Faith-Focused Filmmakers Challenge Hollywood Trends

Actors Kevin Sorbo and Ricky Schroder say they’re pushing back against what they see as destructive Hollywood ideologies by creating pro-American, faith-centered content.

Speaking on a podcast with Andrew Klavan, Schroder said audiences are constantly being “programmed” by what they watch and hear, and he believes it’s time to “turn around the programming.”

He launched the nonprofit Reel American Heroes to produce films and media honoring veterans, first responders, Gold Star families, and other heroic figures. He also criticized Academy diversity requirements, saying they convinced him that “Hollywood had fallen.”

Sorbo acknowledged the professional cost of being outspoken about his Christian and conservative beliefs, calling it “like being a double leper in Hollywood.” Despite smaller budgets and limited theater runs, he says the work is worth it.

Through Sorbo Studios, he aims to restore traditional values in entertainment, adding that while not every project succeeds, he’s focused on creating stories that honor God and impact lives.
