Former atheist and gay-identifying author Becket Cook shared how God used faithful Christians and years of prayer to lead him to faith in Christ.
Cook built a successful Hollywood career working with major celebrities and fashion brands, but despite his success, he felt deeply empty. At a party in Paris, he recalls wondering, “Is that all there is to life?”
One turning point came through Christian model Joy Durham-Schafer. Her decision to end a relationship with a nonbeliever out of obedience to God left a lasting impression on Cook. Looking back, he said her testimony “planted a seed” that made him consider Christianity seriously.
Another key influence was his sister-in-law, Kim Cook, who prayed for his salvation for more than a decade. “I just wanted you saved,” she said, encouraging believers to trust God’s timing and continue praying.
Cook gave his life to Christ in 2005, describing the experience as a “road to Damascus moment.” He now credits God as the author of his redemption story while emphasizing that prayer, grace, and loving witness can play a powerful role in drawing people to faith.
