Gabbard Urges Prayer and Humility at Rededicate 250

At Rededicate 250 on the National Mall, Tulsi Gabbard reminded Americans that the nation was born in prayer.

She noted that “250 years ago today,” on May 17, 1776, the Second Continental Congress called for “a day of humility, fasting, and prayer.” Just weeks before declaring independence, America’s founders “didn’t stride forward in pride. They knelt.”

Gabbard said the same truth remains today: “The foundation of our independence is our dependence upon” God.

She warned that pride in “power, fame, or authority” can blind leaders to their need for the Lord. “There’s only one number one,” she declared, “and that’s God.”

Calling the nation to repentance, she urged Americans to “humble ourselves before God,” “beg for His mercy and guidance,” and forgive others as we ask God to forgive us.

As America looks toward its next 250 years, Gabbard said our hope is not in human strength, but in God alone to lead future generations into “peace, freedom, and prosperity.”
