Grief to Gospel Resolve

After losing his 20-year-old son Evan to a drug overdose, Pastor Greg Locke said the enemy is trying to use grief and guilt to torment his family, but he is refusing to give the devil the final word.

“The devil tried to beat you up with grief, guilt, could have been, should have been, would have been,” Locke told his congregation.

Instead of surrendering to regret, Locke said he believes God reminds grieving parents: “You did what you could. People choose.”

The heartbreaking loss has only deepened his resolve.

“Just makes me hate the devil all the more,” he said. “Makes me want to preach the Bible all the more. Makes me want to reach people all the more and love the broken all the more.”

Even in unimaginable sorrow, Locke says Satan will not turn his pain into despair. By God’s grace, he is using this tragedy to point more people to Jesus and to those struggling with addiction and brokenness.
