Hannah Harper Wins American Idol and Points to Jesus

Hannah Harper didn’t just win “American Idol” — she used one of America’s biggest stages to point people to Jesus.

The 26-year-old mother of three from Missouri ended the season by tearfully singing Chris Tomlin’s worship song “At The Cross (Love Ran Red),” declaring, “I surrender my life, I’m in awe of You.” Just hours after her victory, she thanked everyone who had “prayed over me” and said she was grateful for “the doors the Lord has opened,” quoting Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you.”

Throughout the competition, Harper spoke boldly about her faith. “Having a platform at this level and getting to still be this open about my relationship with the Lord is an incredible honor to me,” she said. She revealed that she has “been in ministry since I was 9 years old” and often prayed backstage with other contestants to stand firm amid what she described as “a lot of spiritual warfare in LA.”

Harper said her deepest desire is for others to know that “you’re never too far gone” and that Jesus “can meet you anywhere … no matter what walk of life you’re in.”
