The Indiana Hoosiers captured their first college football national championship after completing an undefeated season, defeating the Miami Hurricanes 27–21 in the title game.
Indiana finished the year 16–0, sealing the victory late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Mendoza converted a crucial fourth-down run, leaping into the end zone to extend the lead to 10 points with nine minutes remaining.
After the win, Mendoza credited his faith, telling reporters, “I want to give all the glory and thanks to God.” He shared earlier in the week that he believes God brought him to this moment and said he owes everything to Him.
