In God We Trust Act Targets Federal Buildings

As America nears its 250th anniversary, Mary Miller has introduced the “In God We Trust Act,” requiring every federal building to prominently display the nation’s motto: “In God We Trust.”

“For nearly 70 years, our national motto … has served as a declaration of faith that has guided our nation,” Miller said. “We will never apologize for being one nation that places its trust in Almighty God.”

The phrase first appeared on U.S. coins during the Civil War and became the official national motto in 1956 under Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The bill mirrors legislation introduced by Josh Hawley, who recently warned that America faces a “spiritual crisis” as it turns from its Christian roots.
