Alisa DeFord, wife of Grammy-winning artist Jelly Roll, is pushing back against online criticism following her husband’s faith-centered speech at the Grammy Awards.
After Jelly Roll swept all three categories he was nominated for and declared in his acceptance speech that “Jesus is for everybody,” some critics labeled him a “performative Christian.” On her “Dumb Blonde” podcast, DeFord called the backlash “insane,” saying Christians have judged them “more than anyone else.”
She argued her husband isn’t preaching politics or asking for anything, but simply sharing his testimony. “All he’s saying is, ‘Jesus is for everybody,’” she said, adding that people are “weaponizing the Bible” instead of celebrating faith.
DeFord also reflected on her own spiritual journey, sharing that she has stepped away from occult practices and leaned more deeply into her faith during a recent IVF journey.
She defended her husband’s authenticity, saying his music has long carried Christian themes and that what people are witnessing now is simply “a man who is growing in his faith in front of everybody.”
