Speaker Mike Johnson warned that efforts to impose Sharia law in the United States would conflict with the United States Constitution.
Speaking in Florida, Johnson said concerns about Sharia law are growing in the country, though he noted he would not use the same language as Congressman Andy Ogles.
Ogles sparked backlash after posting on X that “Muslims don’t belong in American society” and later claiming “Muslims are unable to assimilate” and should “go back.”
Democrats, including Jamie Raskin, condemned the remarks as religious bigotry and defended constitutional protections for religious freedom.
