Joy Villa Speaks Out After 15 Years in Scientology

Christian singer and actress JoyVilla says she spent 15 years inside Scientology after being told she could keep her Christian faith — a claim she now calls “a lie.”

Villa became one of the church’s most visible success stories, appearing on red carpets, topping charts, and being used as proof that Scientology “worked.”

Behind the scenes, she describes a system of control involving intense interrogations, punishment for doubt, and absolute loyalty to leadership.

Her breaking point came during advanced training at Scientology’s UK headquarters, where she says she fell into deep depression and spiritual collapse.

After returning to the U.S., Villa says God clearly told her to leave. When she began researching outside the church, she says she uncovered widespread abuse, financial exploitation, disconnection policies, and psychological harm.

Today, Villa says she has fully returned to her Christian faith and has been rebaptized. She says Scientology cannot coexist with Christianity, calling “It removes sin, removes repentance, removes grace, removes the cross. It replaces salvation with self-perfection, God with hierarchy, and truth with secrecy.”
