Kevin James says an unexpected trip to the movie theater on Good Friday became a defining moment in his faith journey.
While filming Hitch in New York, James planned to go out for the night but first spoke with his father, a devout Catholic, who reminded him of the meaning of Good Friday, saying it was “the day our Lord died.” That conversation caused James to pause and reconsider his plans.
Alone in the city, he noticed that The Passion of the Christ was playing in theaters and decided to go see it by himself. Sitting in the front row, the experience deeply affected him.
“I was completely moved by it,” James said. “It really just blew me away. It was life-changing.” He described the moment as one of those small but powerful shifts that helped him reconnect with his faith and refocus on becoming a better person.
James has since spoken openly about being a devout, practicing Catholic, often pointing back to that Good Friday decision — and that powerful film — as a turning point that renewed his relationship with God.
