London Police Block “Walk With Jesus” March in Whitechapel

London police has blocked ‘Walk With Jesus’ march in east London, citing fears it could provoke violence in the local Muslim community.

The event was scheduled for January 31 in Whitechapel, an area with one of Britain’s largest Islamic populations. Police said allowing the march there would be “reckless” due to the risk of serious disorder.

Authorities said the march could go ahead in another location — just not in Whitechapel.

This is the second Ukip event banned in Tower Hamlets in recent months. In October, police also stopped a rally called “The Mass Deportations Tour,” which led to tense street scenes and counter-protests.

Ukip accused police of “caving in to Islamists” and violating their right to assemble.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner James Harman insisted the decision was based solely on public safety, warning there was a risk of “serious violence” and that anyone defying the ban could face arrest.
