Maine District Restores Pledge Opportunity After Lawsuit

A Maine school district is reversing course after a lawsuit claimed high school students were not being given the opportunity to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

The case, filed by a father on behalf of his son, alleged the district had failed for years to follow state law requiring schools to provide students the chance to say the pledge.

After the legal challenge, officials said students are now “welcome to say the Pledge of Allegiance if they choose,” and the school has created a designated time during the day for it.
