Medical Missionary Cleared of Ebola, Gives Thanks to God

American medical missionary Dr. Peter Stafford and his family are giving thanks to God after he was released from Berlin’s Charité University Hospital, having tested negative for Ebola and remained symptom-free following specialized treatment. After a frightening decline in his condition, the family said they are deeply grateful for God’s mercy and for the many prayers lifted up on his behalf.

Stafford contracted the Bundibugyo Ebola virus while serving patients in the Democratic Republic of Congo. His wife, Rebekah Stafford, said the family has seen God’s faithfulness throughout the ordeal, and she also remembered a Congolese doctor who helped stabilize Peter before evacuation and told him that God would bring him back.

As Peter continues to recover, the family said their hearts remain with the doctors, nurses, and frontline workers in Congo who continue risking their lives to care for the sick.
