Mel Gibson has finished filming The Resurrection of the Christ, the two-part sequel to The Passion of the Christ. The films will release on Ascension Day in 2027 and 2028.
Gibson called the project “a mission I’ve carried for over 20 years” and said it tells “the most important story in human history.”
Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, Gibson said the movies will explore spiritual warfare and “the battle for the soul of mankind.”
“There’s good, there’s evil, and they are slugging it out for the souls of mankind,” he said. He also described the script as “an acid trip,” adding, “You need to go to hell. You need to go to Sheol.”
