Missionary Doctor Recovers After Ebola Treatment in Berlin

American missionary doctor Dr. Peter Stafford has been released from a hospital in Berlin after recovering from Ebola contracted while serving in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the missionary organization Serge. His wife, also a doctor, and their four children were evacuated and quarantined as high-risk contacts but never developed symptoms and repeatedly tested negative.

Charité Hospital described Stafford’s recovery as a “significant therapeutic success.” Stafford expressed deep gratitude for the medical team, saying, “Words cannot adequately express my gratitude.”

The recovery comes as health officials warn that the Ebola outbreak in Central Africa could expand dramatically. U.S. health authorities estimate the outbreak could reach 10,000 to more than 20,000 cases if containment efforts fail. So far, African health officials have reported about 400 confirmed cases and 63 deaths.
