N.T. Wright Reframes the Second Coming

In a recent podcast, New Testament scholar N.T. Wright challenged popular views about the Second Coming, arguing that the Bible’s story is not about escaping the world but about its renewal. “The whole narrative of the Bible is about creation … and creation’s renewal,” he said, emphasizing that God’s plan is to restore Heaven and Earth together.

Rather than a dramatic descent from the sky, Wright described Christ’s return as a moment when “the veil will be lifted” and “the curtain … is drawn back,” revealing a reality that already exists but is currently hidden.

Wright called believers to refocus on the New Testament vision—God coming to dwell with humanity—and to see the Church as “the small working model of new creation,” living out that future reality today.
